Norms of Ramadhan... I really don't think so

Have you ever wondered if stuffing yourself for suhoor and then having a huge iftaar that makes up for all the food you did not eat the whole day makes sense? well to me it doesn't - at all. Maybe i think this because of the social paradigm i came from or how i was brought up, but maybe you can tell me. Ramadhan - our most merciful and blessed month where fard obligations are given seventy times reward has become, ladies and gentle men an absolutely neglected guest.

I bet if George Bush (regardless of whether we like him or not) was coming to our house we will clean our house thoroughly and make sure we are perfectly prepared for his arrival. What about Ramadhan - our guest from Allah (SWT) do we prepare as perfect as we can for that arrival? Ask yourself that one. I cannot stand it when people tell me they only watch the news in Ramadhan, but when i see them they are watching things other than the news. Besides AT LEAST in Ramadhan get your news somewhere else where it is faster. Forget the whole issue whether watching TV is haraam or not, but pleassseee do not waste time in this blessed month where half of it is gone already. Call me fanatic i do not care, do what you want in the other months - but it is Ramadhan! Do not ignore the gift of the beautiful guest ? It is not a time for just running around going to Iftaar parties and chatting about people afterwards - gimme a break! Ramadhan is a central most pivotal month where the sahabahs use to prepare for it six months in advance and then ask Allah to hopefully accept it sixth months after. Subhan Allah ! and who are we to just push Ramadhan aside and act as if it is some normal month.

Another thing, when we break our fast it is an important moment in out lives especially in Ramadhan. ESPECIALLY when you do not know if it will be your last one. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY! I am sure you have all heard of people passing away in the middle of Ramadhan. So don't you think we should learn from that? How easily we forget huh? Kinda sad of you ask me. So next time you break your fast, have fear of Allah and make dua that your fast is accepted. Your heart should be between fear and hope.

Inshallah if we take the advice of our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and make sure that if we get angry we say "i am fasting, i am fasting" then inshallah it will help. Also fasting is suppose to be a shield from the shaytaan - so make sure it works! There have been many times that i have been hurt by what others have done in the past few days, but just to know that it is Ramadhan can give you a lot of sabr. I better go wasted enough time on this anyways. So overall take care of your Ramadhan because Allah's SWT Mercy and Love is everlasting and people only disappoint you.

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah!

I am excited to start writng on this blog. I hope you enjoy it Inshallah. I am actually starting this blog with the seventh and eight graders at this school i teach. The students are overall very sweet and i feel like when they get older i can be more of an older friend to them than just an authority figure. They are excited about their blogs too. I hope they put it in good use inshallah and use it to put their writing skills into action. I told them to send their blogs to me so that i know what is going on and who is saying what to them. I told them that i do trust them but not people outside. But basically my blog will be about different happenings in my life that i find so interesting that i have to share. By the way Ramadhan Mubarak and Kareem to all. May your fast be accepted and may this month be truly full of mercy.

Your sister,
Safia
